The Smartest Way to Cut Fleet Operating Overhead

In heavy commercial vehicle tyres, approximately 70% of the raw material value, structural steel cords, and engineering investment resides in the internal casing, while the wearable tread layer represents only 30%. Discarding a structurally sound tyre casing simply because the original tread has worn smooth is an enormous financial loss for transport operators.

At Baba's Tyres, our certified cold-cure retreading process applies pre-vulcanized, factory-molded tread liners manufactured under high-pressure presses. By curing at controlled low temperatures (99°C to 110°C), we bond the new tread permanently without subjecting the casing cords to thermal fatigue, delivering road mileage comparable to brand-new tyres at nearly half the price.

Our 6-Step Certified Retreading Standard

1. Ultrasonic Casing Inspection

Every incoming tyre undergoes high-voltage non-destructive testing (NDT) and tactile inspection to verify zero hidden ply separations, rusted crown belts, or bead tears.

2. Precision CNC Buffing

Computer-calibrated buffing rasps remove the old worn tread pattern to a specified texture (RMA buff texture 3-4), restoring an exact true circular crown radius.

3. Skiving & Cushion Gum Layer

Minor stone drilling craters are skived and filled with extruded vulcanizing compound. An unvulcanized natural rubber bonding cushion gum is applied across the entire casing.

4. Precured Tread Application

A factory-molded high-density tread liner (matched for drive, steer, or trailer axle duty) is laser-aligned and applied over the casing under calibrated pneumatic tension.

5. Low-Temp Autoclave Curing

The assembly is sealed in a flexible rubber envelope and cured in a pressurized autoclave chamber at 100°C. The cushion gum cross-links, fusing tread and casing into one solid unit.

6. Final Pressure Testing & Warranty

The retreaded tyre is mounted on a test rim and inflated to 120 PSI to verify uniform bead seating and structural bond before dispatch with our fleet mileage warranty.

Fleet Financial Analysis: New Tyre vs. Quality Retread

Estimated economic comparison for 10.00 R20 / 295/80 R22.5 tyres
Financial Metric Brand New TBR Tyre 1st Cold Retread (Re-Belt) Commercial Advantage

Available Specialized Tread Patterns

Deep Drive-Axle Lug Patterns

Deep 18mm to 22mm block tread designed for drive axles on tippers, construction dumpers, and long-distance trucks requiring massive traction on gradients and unpaved loading sites.

Highway Express Rib Patterns

Multi-rib circumferential designs engineered for smooth highway tracking, low rolling drag, and cool operating temperatures on intercity tourist buses and container trailer axles.

Quarry & Mining Severe-Service Treads

Formulated with cut-and-chip resistant compound polymers that prevent chunking and slicing when driving over sharp blasted granite and rocky quarry terrain.

Trailer & Dummy Axle Free-Rolling

Continuous solid shoulder ribs engineered to resist heavy lateral twisting scrub during tight reversing maneuvers on 40-foot articulated semi-trailers.

Golden Rules to Preserve Casing Retreadability

A tyre casing is an asset. Protect its structural value so it qualifies for multiple retread lifecycles:

Pull Tyres at 2mm to 3mm Remaining Tread Never run tyres down to the steel belt package. Moisture will penetrate exposed steel cords, causing internal rust and immediate rejection.
Maintain Disciplined Inflation Under-inflation causes the sidewall to flex excessively, generating casing temperatures above 115°C that weaken internal ply adhesion.
Store Dismounted Casings in Shade Store pulled casings indoors away from direct sunlight, rain, and diesel fuel spills that deteriorate natural rubber elasticity.
Avoid Extreme Overloading Exceeding rated axle tonnage bends steel radial cords beyond their elastic threshold, creating invisible cord fatigue breaks.

Frequently Asked Questions — Tyre Retreading

Yes, absolutely! Modern cold-cure retreading is recognized globally as safe and standard practice. Commercial airlines land multi-ton passenger jets on retreaded tyres, and public transport bus corporations rely on them daily. Over 90% of rubber debris found on highways is caused by running under-inflated tyres to structural failure, not by retread bond separation.

While technically possible, passenger car tyres are rarely retreaded commercially because their lighter single-ply sidewalls and low replacement purchase cost make retreading economically unviable. Commercial truck, bus, and LCV tyres, by contrast, possess thick, heavy-duty multi-ply steel casings specifically engineered by manufacturers for multiple retread cycles.

A casing is rejected if we detect: (1) Rusted or snapped steel crown belts from running on bare metal, (2) Deep sidewall cuts that penetrate through radial ply cords, (3) Bead bundle distortion or burn from sticking brake drums, or (4) Internal rubber degradation caused by driving on a completely flat tyre.

Standard batch turnaround time for casing inspection, buffing, building, and chamber curing is typically 3 to 5 business days. For fleet operators with rolling schedules, we also provide ready casing-exchange programs to keep transport vehicles rolling without downtime.
